On St. Patrick's Day,
it seemed like a good idea to eat applesauce for dinner.
It seemed like a good idea to drop some green food coloring into it
and mix it up
and put a big "P" (for Patrick, of course) on it, using green sugar.
It seemed like a good idea to put green butter on our bread.
The pickles were naturally green, so it seemed like a good idea to include them in our meal.
It seemed like a good idea to make green milk
and even green rice.
It seemed like a good idea...
...and it was. ;-)

hehe very glad this post ended this way! I was reading this thinking ohhh no.. she is going to say it was a bad idea because someone got sick or something like that! Sounds like it was fun.. well minus the pickles.. I'm not a fan ;-)
Oh dear. for the first time ever, I'm glad I wasn't near your home yesterday!
You see, I'm a 'true blue' Brit, and green is just not my thing.... you'd need to be here to understand, I guess! ;)
I'm afraid we did absolutely nothing to celebrate St. Patrick's day. I guess my kids are missing out on that, but we've had so much other fun these days, I'm not worried about it.
Everything looked o.k. except the green milk. I couldn't handle that!
Sally - we also had chicken for dinner, but I didn't think I could handle green chicken, so I didn't color that. :) You'll be interested to know that my inspiration for this was Mary Faith; I still remember eating green mashed potatoes at her house one time when I was little. The mashed potatoes were fine with their green color...until we poured brown gravy all over them...they didn't look quite as festive then. ;-)
Anne - I understand your feelings, my dear, but wasn't Patrick himself Scottish??? I studied, with the boys, a little of the history of the holiday, and it's really a remarkable story of forgiveness and evangelism. Too bad it's become an excuse to get drunk (which, sadly, is how most of my fellow citizens celebrate it, it seems). But I solemnly promise, if you should ever visit me, I will not serve you anything green. ;-)
Lindsay - I'll admit that Josiah's first reaction when he came in the house and saw what was for dinner was a big "eeewwwww." Once he realized what was going on with the food being colored in honor of Patrick, that changed to a big "YES!" as he excitedly pumped his fists in the air. :)
And all we had were green cookies! Way to upstage me ;) lol True about people using it as an excuse to get drunk :( But they do drink green beer so that makes it ok, right? All in the name of St. Patrick??

What fun ideas! Adam wanted to have Green eggs and Ham on St. Patty's day. Nothing like combining Dr. Suess with a green holiday, huh?
What great ideas! Love the green - my girls would have loved it, too. Tucking that away for next year.
