Making Memory Verses Practical

Like so many other parents, we want our children to be hiding God's Word in their heart; but we don't want it to be simply empty words that don't affect their lives.  With that in mind, we try to choose memory verses that will be very practical and will have an immediate impact on how they live each day.  Bet you can guess why we chose this particular verse...  ;-)
Oh, yeah, we were occasionally ;-) having arguments here in our household that would, by any definition, fit the "foolish and stupid" category.  It was time to make a change.

Here are two of the culprits (but honestly, aren't we all culprits when it comes to this sin?) saying this verse tonight:
Tobin tries to say it so fast, and sometimes he messes up the middle phrase.  Oh well, he's still getting the truth of it in his heart.
"Quarrel" is a hard word to say...at least, for these particular boys!

"Stupid" isn't a word that we normally use, and it definitely stands out to us when God uses it!  This is one time when we allow our kids to say "stupid."  :)

This time of life, when the children are young, is such an important time to be pouring truth into their hearts and helping to shape their character.  We pray for huge dividends to come from the small bit of effort that it takes for them to memorize scripture!

I'm thinking my kids would memorize that verse lightning fast... just for the power of being allowed to say "stupid".

Glad to hear that my kids aren't the only children to fight over foolish things. Sometimes it feels like mine are the only kids that could possibly argue over who plays with the pink car. (the girls big argument of the day today)
