All I Want for My Birthday Is...

"Happy birthday to me,
Jeff gave me some trees,
Three plum and six cher-ryyyyy...
I'm as glad as can be!"

Back in December, I wrote in a list of 7 goals for the new year that I wanted to plant some fruit trees.  Yesterday, that wish came true.  :)

Technically, the trees were my birthday gift--gifts which arrived...oh...approximately 63 days after my birthday.  (But who's counting?)  ;-)  The trees came in a package in the mail; and since we wanted to get them in the ground as soon as we could, we s-t-r-e-t-c-h-e-d the light last evening to finish the job before dark.  It was actually a lot of fun to work together to do this.  :)

Because the trees are so tiny--twigs, really--we put old tires around them so that they wouldn't get run over by a lawnmower (or by feet, for that matter).  ;-)
Jeff dug holes in the hard ground.
Josiah brought pails of water from the cistern.
I admired the sunset.  ;-)
Here it is: one of my cherry trees!  Impressive, isn't it??  ;-)

Jeff took this bottom picture with the flash which makes the background of the picture look much darker than it really was.
We read online that these trees are supposed to start producing fruit in 5-7 years.  It's a little hard for me to have faith that it will actually happen like that.  However, if you find yourself passing by in the summer of 2018, you might want to stop in and see if the trees managed to survive and if they matured enough to produce fruit.  And maybe, just maybe, have a piece of cherry pie with us.

Consider yourself invited.  ;-)

My calendar doesn't have a page for 2018, but I'm making a mental note to stop in that June! You are getting a lot done this summer--strawberries, blueberries, and now cherries and plums! I believe your love of fruit is moving back the food chain and may turn into a love of growing it!
