Just Another "Ordinary" Homeschool Morning

Our homeschool is so very ordinary.  Just the same, ho-hum, hum-drum, boring ol' stuff every single day.

Or not.

Today David read from his Bible while he was sitting at the kitchen table.

 So did Tobin.

 Except he wasn't really reading...because he's only three...and he doesn't know how to do that yet.  But he does know how to imitate his big brother David, so that's what he was doing.

 They were sitting at the kitchen table because they were "helping" Grandma Fisher pull grapes off the vine.  We've been in full-blown grape juice production mode over here, so they've gotten plenty of practice with grape-pulling (and I've been reminded every day of Blueberries for Sal because that's how my little guys do grapes, especially Shav:  one in the bowl, one in my mouth, one more off the stem and into my mouth, then get all the grapes from the bowl and eat them).

 Meanwhile, Josiah was reading an over-sized book that Tobin had gotten out to look at.

 It's not exactly Josiah's current reading level, but if I--at the ripe old age of 35--like reading books for little children, who's to say that he--at the tender age of 9--shouldn't?

 Speaking of Josiah, the first thing he said to me this morning was, "Can you make an obstacle course for me in the living room?"  Knowing that this week of cool, rainy weather had given my boys cabin fever, I responded as enthusiastically as I could.  "Let me think about, " I said, as I headed to the shower.  The hot water did the trick, waking up my brain and inspiring my creativity enough to come up with ideas for how to build a course for him.

 He and David both enjoyed the furniture being arranged in such a way that they had to go over...

 ...and under...

 ...and through various obstacles as they completed it.

When Dad walked into our house mid-morning with yet another bucket of grape clusters he had cut from the vine, I said, "Well, at least we're covering two subjects in our homeschool this morning:  agriculture and P.E.!"  :)  

As it turned out, another subject was being studied, too.

 Our littlest scholar was hiding out in the bathroom, perched by the sink, studying science.

Specifically, hydrology:  the study of water.

It's amazing how much education can happen, right smack dab in the middle of real life.  ;-)
