Shoddy & Bobin

We named our fourth son "Shav."
Tobin, not yet able to accurately pronounce his little brother's name, called him "Odd."  When he tried to imitate the nickname we used--"Shavi"--it came out "Oddy."  As his linguistic skills developed, he was able to add the "sh" sound to the beginning of the name; and now he calls him "Shoddy"!  Tobin has no idea of the real meaning of the word "shoddy," so it's not an insult when he calls Shav by that name.  But one thing we know: Shav is NOT shoddy.  Psalm 139 makes that clear.  ;-)
Shav, for his part, returns the mispronunciation favor by replacing the "t" at the beginning of Tobin's name with a "b."
Shoddy and Bobin - how we love them!!  :)

  1. That's cute! Matthew was six before he understood that his name was Matthew and not Maffew!

  2. Hahaha funny how nicknames are formed...

My son started calling our daughter Elyssa, by the name "Tia" He was only 2 1/2 at the time and when asked why he kept calling her that, he replied he didn't like the other name. To this day he calls her that. He is now 14 and she is 12.

I think it is special! Something your boys will always have between them. A name only a beloved best friend would call them by.
