Jehovah Jireh, and a Little Red Christmas Dress

Every year of Moriah's short life so far, she has had a fancy red dress to wear on a Sunday close to Christmas; and she and I have taken a picture together in our Christmas finery.  :)  (2012's pictures are here, and 2013's are here.)  But this year, as Christmas was approaching, she didn't have a dress like that.

It wasn't really a big deal and certainly wasn't significant enough for me to go out and buy such a dress; but in a corner of my heart, I was wishing that she could have one so we could continue the tradition.  "It doesn't matter," I would tell myself, then catch myself wanting it again.

And then a wondrous thing happened: on December 11, which happened to be Jeff's birthday, he took us and his co-workers and all of their families out for our annual barber shop Christmas dinner; and while we were there, one of his co-workers who has a little girl a bit younger than Moriah came to me and wondered aloud if the dress she was holding in her hands would fit Moriah since it was too small for her daughter.

Lo and behold, it was a fancy red dress.

What's more, it fit Moriah.

Wanna see?  :)

Many years ago, when I was a young girl, we sang a song in church that had these words:
Jehoveh Jireh, my provider,
His grace is sufficient for me, for me, for me.
My God shall supply all my needs
According to His riches in glory.
He shall give His angels charge over me.
Jehoveh Jireh cares for me, for me, for me.
Jehoveh Jireh cares for me!

All the time, I know this is true.  But once in a while, God does a little something extra to drive home the point.

Like the unexpected gift of a little red Christmas dress for my girl.  :)

  1. Yes! I love those Jehovah Jireh moments where the hug from heaven is FELT and we feel SEEN. What a beautiful little girl in a beautiful red dress with her beautiful mama.

  2. That is really special! What makes this even more exciting to me is that Marie (I think it's her size) has a red dress exactly like that one! She doesn't wear it in the winter because it has short sleeve, but she has other red outfits for Christmas. Next time I am thinning out our little girl dress supply, I will try to remember to check with you and see if there is a particular color/size/style you are longing for!
